Comprising The National Drama School (est 1936), Ballet School (est 1939) and Theatre (est 1974), The National Melbourne (est 1935) has been a vital player in Melbourne’s creative landscape since 1920 when the current Beaux Art inspired building was constructed as the 3000-seat Victory Theatre (cinema).
Continuing the legacy of Australian performing arts pioneer Gertrude Johnson OBE (1894-1973), the National Melbourne is a not-for-profit arts organisation that supports communities through the arts by providing an accessible venue and a vocational training centre committed to cultivating creativity and excellence in the performing arts.
